A lot of thought should be put into the design of a company logo. Not only should it have attention-grabbing content, be sized well and contain various other design elements, it should also appeal to most, if not all who see it on a subconscious level.

This means the design of a logo should be done with a professional designer by your side, who will be able to bring your directions to life. If you are thinking of creating a logo for your business, here are some do’s and don’ts you should keep in mind during the design process:

Easy to see

Be sure that your logo is easy to read by your potential viewers and customers. This means that you should ensure that the lettering and font choice works with the design. Speaking of design, you should also be sure that it is unique, but not overly complicated. Some of the most effective logos in the history of branding are some the simplest.

A reflection, not a distraction

In essence, your logo will be the masthead of your business. This means that it should, on a design level, be a reflection of your enterprise, and not distract from what it does. This means it should be able to age with your business’ growth, and be timeless. In this case, timeless means that it isn’t designed with a current fad in mind, but instead with classical design choices, to ensure it won’t look dated in a couple of years.

You should also be sure that the logo utilises the colour choices of your branding effectively, to ensure it stands out and presents as part of your business in a balanced and thoughtful way.

Finally, your logo will have to work on various mediums. This means it should present well as a Facebook photo, letterhead, and even on something as simple as a pamphlet. By doing so, you’ll be presenting a consistent image of your business across the various platforms you’ll be advertising on, which goes a long way in fostering loyalty for your clients.
